Sorry to be a fanatic nitpicker but I really am curious. If anyone knows (CDaddy?), that’d be great. Did the kid get the lyrics to “Respect” by Aretha Franklin wrong so they didn’t have to pay copyright royalties to the songwriters? Or was it merely plot-driven, for a gag that the kid didn’t remember the song (or the definition of the word?)

Given the rest of the episode and the realistic portrayal of children, I think it was just a way to demonstrate the inability to explain something that one understands but isn’t able to communicate. I used to be like that when I was younger (especially since I was picked up on a lot more vocabulary than the rest of the students and was finally put into the Gifted class).

Didn’t fit the characters. They were not silly but more reserved and “real.”
